Full Steps Jefferson Nickels
Many Jefferson Nickel collectors have chosen to focus on obtaining examples for each issue which display "full steps". This refers to the steps at the base of Monticello on the reverse. In order to qualify for the designation, generally five or six of the steps must be present without any interruptions or breaks.
Significant premiums are commanded by some issues which are rarely encountered with full steps. PCGS designates the coins with "FS" after the numerical grade. NGC designates either "5FS" or "6FS" depending on the number of steps visible.
